Hand-picked by Julian Bream to perform new commissions for the Julian Bream Trust, Andrey Lebedev has become ingrained in the classical guitar’s history as a descendent of Bream’s legacy. As part of the historic collaboration Lebedev premiered Sir Harrison Birtwistle’s Beyond the White Hand: Construction with Guitar Player and Leo Brouwer’s Sonata No.5 Ars Combinatoria in London in 2014, working closely with Bream and the composers.
Born in Moscow and brought up in Australia, Lebedev is currently living in London where he is a post-graduate student at the Royal Academy of Music, supported by the ABRSM and Julian Bream Trust. He is the First Prize winner of multiple international competitions including the 25th Gisborne International Music Competition for Orchestral Instruments (also recipient of the Bach Prize), the Adelaide International Guitar Competition (the only Australian winner), the Australian National Fine Music Young Performers Award (only classical guitarist to ever to win), and the Sydney Eisteddfod Instrumental Scholarship (the first classical guitarist ever to win). His engagements for the 2014/15 season include performance as soloist in Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez with Orchestra Wellington, and solo recitals at the Wigmore Hall, St Johns Smith Square, Colston Hall, Adelaide International Guitar Festival, Sydney Classical Guitar Society and Darwin Entertainment Centre. He has featured with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Canberra Festival Camerata, and has performed for the Australian Pavilion at World Expo Shanghai, Melbourne Arts Centre, and City Recital Hall Angel Place.
Lebedev currently a student of Michael Lewin at the Royal Academy of Music and is assisted by the South Australian Government through the Carclew Board, the ABRSM, and Julian Bream Trust. He graduated from the Australian National University School of Music as a student of Timothy Kain.
